TRADITIONAL SEMI-TRACTION BATTERIES FOR ELECTRIC DRIVE SYSTEMS

The plates form the heart of the battery. A plate is a moulded or extruded lead grid onto which lead paste is pressed. They become either negative or positive plates depending on the composition of the lead paste. The thickness and composition of the plates makes one of the biggest differences between the various types of batteries. Semi-traction batteries have slightly thicker plates and a different kind of separator than found in starter batteries. This makes the plate more robust and so the battery can stand up to more cyclical usage than starter batteries.

When looking for a battery for only light usage, it is advisable to select an EDrive semi-traction battery. The EDrive label that we apply to batteries is your guarantee that the battery has successfully undergone the strictest quality testing.

Semi-traction batteries have a typical life-span of 300 cycles. Batteries can only achieve the anticipated life-span if they are properly maintained. In practice the semi-traction batteries can be used for the lighter applications (1 charging cycle per week).  For more intensive usage you should choose deep-cycle or traction batteries.

Semi-traction batteries are often used for the following lighter applications: cleaning machines, access equipment, electric wheelchairs, golf carts and caddies, caravans, mobile homes, boats, etc.
